Here are the basic requirements for a firefighter:

  1. Complete this application and meet with me or my designee for an interview.
  2. Submit to a complete criminal background check. Please keep in mind that, while not all documented violations will prohibit you from serving, lying about your record will lead to automatic disqualification.
  3. Provide documentation of a successful completion of a recognized firefighter or EMS training program, or complete our department’s objective-based introductory firefighter training, in accordance with SFFMA Guidelines.
  4. At your own pace, but within 180 days, the following free on-line courses must be completed: - Complete the following NIMS courses: 100, 200, 700, 703, and 800 - Complete the Traffic Incident Management System (TIMS) course - Complete “Courage To Be Safe” course 5. Decide if you can commit to becoming a Kempner Volunteer Fire Department firefighter.
  5. Must obtain a Class “B” Exempt driver’s license to operate the larger apparatuses (engines, tenders, heavy Brush trucks).
