Here are the basic requirements for a firefighter:
- Complete this application and meet with me or my designee for an interview.
- Submit to a complete criminal background check. Please keep in mind that, while not all documented violations will prohibit you from serving, lying about your record will lead to automatic disqualification.
- Provide documentation of a successful completion of a recognized firefighter or EMS training program, or complete our department’s objective-based introductory firefighter training, in accordance with SFFMA Guidelines.
- At your own pace, but within 180 days, the following free on-line courses must be completed: - Complete the following NIMS courses: 100, 200, 700, 703, and 800 - Complete the Traffic Incident Management System (TIMS) course - Complete “Courage To Be Safe” course 5. Decide if you can commit to becoming a Kempner Volunteer Fire Department firefighter.
- Must obtain a Class “B” Exempt driver’s license to operate the larger apparatuses (engines, tenders, heavy Brush trucks).
